At GXS, bonding over ’80s hair bands

Since business services organization GXS was unique off from Common Power in 2002, it has been trying to move away from what vice chairman of international marketing Bob Keifer calling “the blue-suit, very official business culture” of its former mother or father organization.
So the Gaithersburg-based organization has developed office activities and methods that take a cue from Rubber Valley: more informal and more public.
One of the more well-known activities the organization has prepared up so far is a per month Locks Group Satisfied Time, in which staffers spice up in ’80s equipment — think Lace Wigs, attractive denims and container covers — to rectangle off against each other in it clip gaming Stone Group.
It began as a conventional happy hour with treats and beverages, but on one event an IT staffer made the decision to tremble things up by providing his karaoke device.

“We had liquor, but that was not enough to get people really engaged,” laughed Bart Mease, an account professional.
So they made the decision for upcoming events to change to Stone Group, which still permitted for performing, but let others be a part of in even if they did not love the focus. Soon after, for a cheerful hour near Hallow's eve, some staffers came clothed as associates of ’80s groups Def Leppard, White-colored Reptile and Weapons N’ Flowers. The custom has trapped, with employees all the way up to the us chief executive consistently coming in outfit.
Mease said he’s not shy about belting out music at the front side of his co-workers. (Journey’s “Don’t Quit Believin’?” has been a particular preferred.)
“I go way over the top,” Mease said. “They can listen to me on other surfaces.”
That comfortable atmosphere, he said, has been a great way to get to know his co-workers better.
